Nucleate Canada is thrilled to invite you to a series of exclusive events hosted by Nucleate Canada in Edmonton on May 20th and 21st. This is a unique opportunity to connect with the inaugural Nucleate Canada Activator Cohort, comprising visionary biotech innovators focused on Oncology, Neurodegenerative Disorders, and Integrated Healthcare Solutions selected from across the country, who will be flying in for these sessions.

Nucleate is dedicated to empowering the next generation of biotech leaders. These events, held alongside the Upperbound AI conference, aim to catalyze collaboration, investment, and ecosystem growth within Canada’s vibrant life sciences sector, with a special focus on Alberta’s potential.

Nucleate is hosting two distinct, high-value days tailored to different facets of the biotech ecosystem:

1. May 20th | Nucleate Canada: Partners Showcase

  • Focus: An intimate gathering for ecosystem building, trainee activation, and partnership development in Alberta. Connect key stakeholders directly with our Activator teams.
  • Highlights:
    • Engage with key partners like CDL Nurture, Lab2Market Health, i2I, Amplitude Ventures, early-stage investors (TNT, UCeed, Frontrow Ventures), grant agencies (Mindfuel), and ecosystem enablers (Alberta Innovates, AEC).
    • Participate in a panel discussion on “Supporting the Next Generation of Scientists”, featuring voices from CDL, Lab2Market, and the Invention to Innovation (i2I) program.
    • Dedicated partnering event with opportunities to meet Nucleate HQ leadership, sponsors, and regional/national partners.
    • Stick around for a Fireside chat with the Senior Director of Founder Development at the Velocity incubator out of University of Waterloo. The incubator that has helped the founders of more than 400 startups achieve a collective enterprise value of $35 billion. Joined by Chris Haskell – Head, JLABS San Francisco Bay Area to share insights on how Scientist Founders are supported and the Opportunities and Challenges on maintaining a thriving ecosystem for biotech innovation to take root.
    • Introductions to Nucleate Canada teams developing solutions in Oncology, Neurodegenerative Disorders, and Integrated Healthcare.
  • Goal: Identify collaboration opportunities, discuss bridging ecosystem gaps, connect students and partners with vital programs, and explore how Alberta can further support emerging biotech ventures.

2. May 21st | Nucleate Canada Presents – The Forum

  • Focus:  Investment and commercialization. Witness pitches from the Activator cohort finalists and gain insights from panels featuring successful biotech founders and leading investors. Includes dedicated networking and Q&A sessions for investors to connect directly with the finalist teams.
  • Highlights:
    • Network with key stakeholders in Edmonton and across the broader Nucleate network visiting Edmonton.
    • Gain insights from panels including “Working Backwards: Insights from Canadian Biotech ”, and “Building Tomorrow’s Biotech: Investors on Cultivating Scientist-Founders.
    • Witness pitches and demos from our Activator cohort finalists, showcasing early-stage ventures at the forefront of science and innovation developing solutions in Oncology, Neurodegenerative Disorders, and Integrated Healthcare .
    • Includes dedicated networking and Q&A sessions for investors to connect directly with the finalist teams.

    3. May 21st (Evening): AI in Drug Discovery Panel
  • Focus: The intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Biotechnology. Building on Nucleate’s global AI in Biotech series, this panel features prominent TechBio leaders (including Alberta’s own Naheed Kurji) discussing the latest advancements and future directions.
  • Goal: Connect local AI and TechBio stakeholders with national and international leaders, foster the AI in Bio community in Edmonton, and explore cutting-edge applications in drug discovery.
